The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) will join forces with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR), Miami Fire Department, Coral Gables Fire Department, Miami Beach Fire Department, and the Metro-Dade Firefighters International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 1403 on Friday, August 31, at 10:00 a.m. to kick-off the annual Labor Day “fill the boot” drive at the Fire Fighters Memorial Building, 8000 NW 21 Street.
The event will feature testimonials from individuals who are living with neuromuscular disease, as well as fire personnel who will be pounding the pavement this weekend for donations. Representatives from other local fire departments will also be in attendance.
Firefighters throughout Miami-Dade County will be collecting donations for the MDA at major intersections this Labor Day weekend starting Friday and concluding late Monday. All funds collected over the weekend will provide research and family support counseling in our community, help purchase wheelchairs and communication devices, and will give children with neuromuscular diseases the chance to attend MDA summer camp.
The MDA is a volunteer health agency working to defeat neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive services, and far-reaching professional and public health education.
